Eliza and Waldo Jones family and genealogical papers

Scope and Content

Eliza Jones accumulated this collection to document the genealogy of her extended families as well that of her husband, Waldo Jones. Materials include correspondence that documents her daily life and views, financial records, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, and diaries. The collection also contains papers from her and Waldo Jones's extended family. Families represented include the Woolford, Grant, Slaton, Harris, Fitz-Randolph, Martin, Waldo, Winslow, Felder, and Jackson families.

Hayden family papers

Scope and Content

This collection contains scrapbooks from Julius Hayden and Evelyn Whitner, Julius' granddaughter. Julius' scrapbook contains newspaper clippings from the presidential election of 1860 as well as the first year of the American Civil War. Evelyn's scrapbook contains image clippings mostly of women, children, and animals. Also included in the collection are newspaper clippings from the 1930s and 1940s.

John Ashley Jones papers

Scope and Content

Ephemeral items related to the Sons of Confederate Veterans (of which Jones was the national commander), the New York Life Insurance Company, and Central Presbyterian Church of Atlanta (where he served as a ruling elder). Of special interest are scripts and historical addresses from Atlanta’s Centennial Celebration in 1948 and an inscribed copy of Ivan Allen’s The Spirit of Atlanta (1948).

Robert Carr war correspondence

Scope and Content This collection primarily contains letters from Robert Carr to his sister, Virginia (1844-1927), and his mother, Sarah. The letters document his time in the Battery F, First Ohio Light Artillery, including a firsthand account of his involvement in Civil War engagements such as the Battle of Shiloh and the United States Army’s capture of John Hunt Morgan. The collection also contains letter from Ripley, Ohio during World War II. The soldier mentioned in the letter is presumably a descendant...
